Their are many pieces of software available for working in 3D. Each software generally caters to a particular audience, CAD (Computer Aided Design) software is designed for engineering and drafting purposes, 3D Rendering software such as Maya or 3D Studio Max are designed to create images and animations for screen or print with varying degrees of realism.
